The first written document about Lviv was recorded in 1256. Lviv was granted the Magdeburg right in 1356 and became a self-governed and independent city.

Lviv is a city where the architecture of different epochs, styles and traditions of the East and West have combined into a unique architectural and cityscape ensemble. The central part of Lviv was announced to be a historical and architectural preservation, and was included into the World Heritage List of UNESCO on December 2, 1998 in Kyoto.
