Description

Lviv is one of the largest ancient cities of Ukraine.The Slavonic settlement of Lviv was established in the middle of the 5th century on the bank of the Poltava river. The first written document about Lviv was recorded in 1256. Lviv was granted the Magdeburg right in 1356 and became a self-governed and independent city.

Lviv is a city where the architecture of different epochs, styles and traditions of the East and West have combined into a unique architectural and cityscape ensemble. The central part of Lviv was announced to be a historical and architectural preservation, and was included into the World Heritage List of UNESCO on December 2, 1998 in Kyoto.


Today Lviv is the cultural, educational and economic center of Western Ukraine. There is a wealth of museums, art galleries, theatres and over two thousand historical and architectural landmarks in Lviv. Welcome to Lviv, a unique museum under the open sky.
