Description

Ivano-Frankivsk has been labeled as "The Gateway to the Carpathian Mountains". It's beauty is unsurpassed.

The first mention of Ivano-Frankivsk in chronicles dates back to the year 1437. The city was granted the Magdeburg right in 1662 and became known as Stanislaviv. The City of Stanislaviv was the center of the Western-Ukrainian National Republic during January-May, 1919. In 1962 Stanislaviv was renamed Ivano-Frankivsk in the honour of famous Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko.

The Ivano-Frankivsk region is proud of its unique culture, traditions and affluent heritage. Approximately 3500 local monuments of history and culture are under the state protection.
